Theoretical and numerical aspects of the interfacial coupling: The scalar Riemann problem and an application to multiphase flows

چکیده

This note is devoted to the study of the one dimensional interfacial coupling of two PDE systems at a given fixed interface, say x = 0. Each system is posed on a half-space, namely x < 0 and x > 0. As an interfacial model, a coupling condition whose objective is to enforce the continuity (in a weak sense) of a prescribed variable is imposed at x = 0. We focus on the coupling of two scalar conservation laws and state an existence result for the coupled Riemann problem. Numerical experiments are also proposed. In the long version of this note we will then consider, both from a theoretical and a numerical point of view, the coupling of two-phase flow models namely a drift-flux model and a two-fluid model. In particular, the link between both models will be addressed using asymptotic expansions.

A preconditioned solver for sharp resolution of multiphase flows at all Mach numbers

A preconditioned five-equation two-phase model coupled with an interface sharpening technique is introduced for simulation of a wide range of multiphase flows with both high and low Mach regimes. Harten-Lax-van Leer-Contact (HLLC) Riemann solver is implemented for solving the discretized equations while tangent of hyperbola for interface capturing (THINC) interface sharpening method is applied ...

Application of the Schwarz-Christoffel Transformation in Solving Two-Dimensional Turbulent Flows in Complex Geometries

In this paper, two-dimensional turbulent flows in different and complex geometries are simulated by using an accurate grid generation method. In order to analyze the fluid flow, numerical solution of the continuity and Navier-Stokes equations are solved using CFD techniques. Considering the complexity of the physical geometry, conformal mapping is used to generate an orthogonal grid by means of...

Analysis of Oscillation Amplitude and Phase Error in Multiphase LC Oscillators

Abstract   This work proposes a novel method to find the phase error and oscillation amplitude in multiphase LC oscillators. A mathematical approach is used to find the relationship between every stage's output phase and its coupling factor. To much more general analysis, every stage assumed to have a different coupling factor. The mismatches in LC tanks are considered as the main source of pha...

Numerical modeling of three-phase flow through a Venturi meter using the LSSVM algorithm

One of the challenging problems in the Oil & Gas industry is accurate and reliable multiphase flow rate measurement in a three-phase flow. Application of methods with minimized uncertainty is required in the industry. Previous developed correlations for two-phase flow are complex and not capable of three-phase flow. Hence phase behavior identification in different conditions to designing and mo...

Asymptotic Expansion of a Multiscale Numerical Scheme for Compressible Multiphase Flow

Abstract. The simulation of compressible multiphase problems is a difficult task for modelization and mathematical reasons. Here, thanks to a probabilistic multiscale interpretation of multiphase flows, we construct a numerical scheme that provides a solution to these difficulties. Three types of terms can be identified in the scheme in addition to the temporal term. One is a conservative term,...
